Ducks on Quiet Water
Original 9" x 7"
Gouache on Illustration Board

The spectacular pink flower of Pacific rhododendron is the state flower of Washington. The striking white flowers of Pacific dogwood (the floral emblem of British Columbia) usually start to decline about the time rhododendron shrubs begin to bloom. Clusters of bright red berries develop from the floral heads of dogwood in the fall. Wood of dogwood has been used for bows, arrows, and handles for tools. A pair of Mallard ducks pursues the rights of Spring in a quiet eddy beside a rushing forest stream.
