Fruits of Summer
Original 27" x 36"
Gouache on Illustration Board

Mountain blueberries (being picked by the cabin), red elderberries (must be cooked to avoid nausea), and the blue berries of both Oregon grape and salal are wild fruits of The Pacific Northwest that are used in jellies. The red berries of mountain ash are rarely eaten, but the berries and other parts of devil's club have provided medicines for native Americans. But avoid the seductive red or white berries of baneberry, for they are toxic.
